Disability Sport & Recreation is excited to announce that the 2017 Victorian Wheelchair Rugby Classic will be broadcast LIVE on October 6 and 7.
Brought to you from the Frankston Basketball Stadium, the Victorian Wheelchair Rugby Classic is set to feature a selection of Australia’s leading wheelchair athletes, including members of the Rio 2016 Paralympic Gold medal team.
They will mix it with Victoria’s best, plus an invitational NSW team, across two days of intensive competition, as clubs battle it out for the inaugural Victorian Wheelchair Rugby Classic title.
Wheelchair rugby has experienced a worldwide explosion in popularity in recent years, and has attracted players and spectators to the sport through the intensity, physicality and tactical nous shown by the athletes.
Disability Sport & Recreation CEO, Richard Amon, believes that showcasing Victoria’s best wheelchair rugby athletes to a broad audience is a huge step in helping Victorians with disability get active.
“We are excited to be working with My Sport Live to showcase the inaugural Victorian Wheelchair Rugby Classic, which is supported by Taxi Services Commission, Protect and ETU,” Amon said.
“Protect is proud to be the official sponsor of the Victorian Wheelchair Rugby Cup, which this event is a part of, while ETU supports the development of grassroots wheelchair rugby in Victoria.
“Disability Sport & Recreation aims to improve the health of all Victorians with disability through sport and recreation.
“We are working to make sure Victorians with disability have equal opportunities to take part in the sport and recreation activities that they want to participate in, and by providing Victoria’s premier wheelchair rugby athletes with a platform to demonstrate their abilities and skills, we believe this will be a huge benefit to disability sport.”

Coverage of the 2017 Victorian Wheelchair Rugby Classic will begin on Friday 6 October at 11am and Saturday 7 October at 10am.
